The aim of this 30h course is to introduce students to the problems of quantum electrodynamics (QED). That was for years, till the advent of unified theory of weak and electromagnetic interaction, the most successful physical theory which allowed to calculate extremely accurate prediction of subtle electromagnetic effects. Quantum field theory, based on quantum electrodynamics, became a standard tool of theoretical physics, although its mathematical structure is still far from being perfect.

The course will be mainly devoted to the presentation of quantum electrodynamics as an effective and indispensable tool for solving physical problems. It begins with the presentation of relativistic quantum mechanics as the necessary starting point to quantum electrodynamics formalism.
